Blog-reduce-the-cost-of-your-office-heating-with-these-handy-tips

Although we don’t tend to worry much about office heating in the summertime, since temperatures are usually pretty comfortable, come wintertime our heating bills tend to skyrocket. To avoid having to pay over the odds for your office heating, follow the tips below in preparation for the colder months.

Avoid heating unused areas

Take a little walk around your office to check that the radiators are turned off in all of the rooms that aren’t being used. Many businesses end up wasting heat in rooms like meeting rooms and storage spaces that rarely get used by staff. If there’s no one in there – you don’t need to heat it!

Get your staff on board with trying to reduce wasted heating in your office. Mention it in your next meeting, send out a quick email and put notices up to remind them to turn off the radiators when they’ve finished using a room.

Keep doors and windows shut

Did you know that up to 15% of energy lost from a building escapes through the gaps in doors and windows? Make sure that you’re not wasting money on lost energy by keeping your office doors and windows shut. It’s also important to make sure your doors and windows are properly sealed. Doing so could save you a significant amount on your energy bills.

Change your seating arrangement

Simply changing the seating arrangement in your office can help your employees feel warmer, so you won’t have to worry about cranking up the heating as much in the winter. Try and position desks and workspaces away from windows and outside walls, as these areas tend to be cooler.

Set your thermostat to coincide with working patterns

If staff aren’t in the office, there’s no need to keep it at a high temperature. Set your thermostat to only turn your heating on when people are actually at work.
There’s no need to maintain an ideal office temperature during evenings and weekends, if there’s no one there to enjoy it.
